Lake Murray Real Estate Update 10-25-2010

Jamey Patrick Bass Tournament this past Saturday – The 13th Annual Jamey Patrick Bass Tournament was held Saturday, October 23 out of Billy Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray. Top Prize is $1,250 for First Place – $110 entry per team or $65 for a Single Fisherman. Fees include Big Bass – add $20 if you pay at the ramp. Departure: Safe light til 2p.m. Boat numbers will be determined by date of entry. Tackle & Equipment: Only artificial baits or lures may be used. Pork style baits are not allowed. All bass must be caught on rod and reel and hooked in the mouth.

Feds approve dock expansion at Riverwinds – SCE & G’s application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) asking permission to allow River Winds Landing to expand its docking facilities was officially approved on October 1. The expansion would allow the addition of 20 slips and the relocation of two existing slips in order to “provide additional moorage for patrons of River Winds Landing and allow more than one boat at a time to access the fuel dock. “ The marina is located on highway 391 on the Newberry County side of Blacks Bridge. Locals say the bridge represents the gateway to “God’s country”. The marina’s rustic features blend in with the Saluda River, and miles of pristine forest that line the shoreline.

At the Lake – The lake remains below full pond at this time but rainfall amounts can result in higher levels. Lake levels depend on the amount of rainfall received and general draw downs for electricity. Water levels change rapidly due to energy needs and the hydro electric generator plant controls levels of the Sauda River and Lake Murray. Exercise good judgement and caution while on the lake or the river.

All information compliments of The Lake Murray News.

Lexington Irmo Lake Murray Real Estate Update 10-21-2010

140 years of history The Chronicle and The Dispatch-News celebrating freedom of press- Over the last 140 years, the Lexington County Chronicle and The Dispatch News has become the oldest continuously operating business in the county. That’s a distinction in a time when pessimists are already predicting “the inevitable death” of the American newspaper. The newspaper was born in the backroom of Harman’s Bazaar, a general store on East Main Street where the Walker law office now stands next to the old courthouse. Godfrey Harman, better known as “Uncle Josh” was a veteran of the War for Southern Independence. Like many boys in 1861, he ran away to join the Confederate States Army but was sent home as too young for combat. He later rejoined the CSA and saw combat in Virginia before the war’s end. While he was gone, Union Gen. William T. Sherman’s army captured and burned much of Lexington including the courthouse, homes and churches.

A newspaper is born – On returning home, Harman went into business and started the newspaper at the urging of community leaders. He named his newspaper the Lexington Dispatch.

The little town that doesn’t know how to stop growing The historic town of Lexington, SC is a direct descendant of the old Royal township of Saxe Gotha. This town was one of 11 established in 1735 by the Colonial government of King George II to encourage settlement of backcountry South Carolina. The name Saxe Gotha was given in honor of the marriage of the King’s son, Frederick Louis Prince of Wales, to Princess Augusta of the German Duchy of Saxe Gotha. The couple became parents of King George III of England.
