Mozart in Prague: Charleston Symphony Orchestra

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra performs Mozart in Prague with a program comprised entirely of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Co-presented by the South Carolina Philharmonic, the second concert in the CSO’s new Charleston Chamber Orchestra Series takes place Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, SC. Joining the CSO Chamber Orchestra are special guest vocalists and College of Charleston alumni María Antúnez and Martin Nusspaumer.
Mozart was much celebrated in the city of Prague, and in return dedicated some of his greatest works to the “City of a Hundred Spires.” The Charleston Symphony’s concert features the overtures and select arias from operas Don Giovanni, which premiered in Prague to much acclaim in 1787, and Cosi fan tutte. Also on the program is the overture from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. Symphony No. 38, also called the “Prague” Symphony, completes the all-Mozart selections.
