Lexington SC Residents New Dinner Cruise Boat on Lake Murray

According to an article in the “Lake Murray News” (January 15, 2009) there is a new 80 foot long, two story yacht coming to Lake Murray. The boat will be called The Spirit of Lake Murray and is fully heated and air conditioned. According to the article the vessel will be used primarily for private charters, weddings, anniversaries, reunions, business groups, church groups, or any other group wanting this type of unique experience on the water. The yacht will be conveniently located for Lexington, Irmo, Chapin, and Columbia residents at the Lake Murray Marina. The owners plan to have the vessel ready for use on Lake Murray by March, just in time for the weather to warm up and start enjoying the water again! Lexington SC Market Shows Significant Drop in Sales, But Value Remains Stable

In the most recent Sunday edition of The State newspaper (January 25, 2009, section F) there was a huge article about the state of the housing market in Columbia, SC. The greater Columbia, SC area is made up of 5 general areas: Irmo, NE Richland, Lexington, Downtown, and Southeast. The strongest area of town was the downtown area where sales dropped 17% from 2007 but sales prices actually rose 5%. In Lexington sales were down about 26% from 2007 and prices remained somewhat stable dropping only 1%. The general consensus of most areas in the area is that while sales have slowed, which is no big surprise, values have remained stable, which has always been a hallmark of the region. Interest rates are great and there are some great deals out there right now.

So far in 2009 in Lexington, SC and the Lake Murray area 125 homes have come on the market. The minimum price home thus far for the year is $54,900 and the highest price home is a Lake Murray home priced at $1,250,000. The average list price for the area is just under $200,000 and the average size is about 2,000 square feet. In this same period of time 11 properties have gone under contract and 2 are contingent on home inspections. What this tells me is that we are definitely in a buyers market and there are plenty of homes to choose from!
