Lexington Irmo Lake Murray Real Estate Update 11-18-2010

Lexington suggests scaled down walking trails – A walking and jogging trail planned in Lexington may be shortened because of costs. Town Council on Monday asked trail supporters to look for ways to cut costs on the project. That could mean cutting some things like picnic shelters and decreasing the length of the trail from 3,500 to 2,000 feet. The changes became necessary when council cut its contribution to the project in half – pledging $20,000 instead of the $40,000 supporters were requesting. “We want to make it happen, but we’re struggling,” Mayor Randy Halfacre said.

Leaders trying to save bus service for elderly, disabled – Lexington County leaders are scrambling to find resources to replace the Dial A Ride Transit buses which could be eliminated if the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority cuts bus service in the Midlands. The RTA is looking at reductions in service after Richland County voters failed to pass a one-cent sales tax increase in the Nov. 2 general election. The sales tax would have provided funding to keep buses on the road. RTA officials say service will continue in Lexington County while decisions are made.

Wildcats taking the next step – Before the season started, new Lexington coach Scott Earley talked about changing the culture at LHS. Earley and the Wildcats took a big step towards that change with a 22-21 win over Boiling Springs in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs. An excited Earley said that getting the win over the Bulldogs could be the start of something big. “They play an entirely different game in the Upstate,” Earley said. “We’re trying to bring that mentality to the Midlands, but it been a slow process. Hopefully, this win will show people that we can play.”
