Joe Taylor: Expect big news next month

Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor said today at an Upstate event that the state is closing on some economic development projects that “will really make you say ‘wow’” in December.

SCETV names new president and CEO

Linda O’Bryon named president and CEO of SCETV Linda O’Bryon comes to South Carolina from Northern California, where she oversaw content at several TV and radio stations. She has received a Lifetime Achievement Emmy for business and financial reporting.

USC chemistry researchers help visualize bloodstains

The new technology, called “multimode imaging in the thermal infrared,” could eventually be used in crime scene investigations, since it can capture bloodstains that the human eye can’t see.

 

 

Columbia College educator U.S. Professor of the Year

John Zubizarreta of Columbia College’s English department is the first S.C. professor to be named U.S. Professor of the Year for undergraduate baccalaureate colleges. Zubizarreta has been a faculty member at Columbia College for 22 years

Columbia encourages recycling of fried turkey oil

City of Columbia residents can now recycle used cooking oil from Thanksgiving — and every other day of the year — through a new cooking oil recycling program called Southern Fried Fuel.

Engineering Cluster focuses on project management

The program is designed to give participants an understanding of the fundamentals of project management, said Lee Stogner, who leads the Engineering Cluster for New Carolina.
