CoEE program doubles lottery dollars investment

The South Carolina Centers of Economic Excellence Program has brought in $363 million in non-state investment into the South Carolina economy and created 4,717 jobs. To date, the state has invested $180 million in S.C. Education Lottery proceeds.

Columbia considering utility bill surcharge to fund buses

Mayor Steve Benjamin said it would be unacceptable for the bus system to shut down. Instead, city council will consider a surcharge on all city utility bills.

 

Budget and Control Board puts off deficit decisions

The Budget and Control Board pushed on to the new administration responsibility for handling deficits at three state agencies, including a projected $228 million shortfall related to Medicaid costs.

Santee Cooper enters long-term agreement in Upstate

Santee Cooper and Piedmont Municipal Power Agency announced Monday the approval of a long-term power agreement in which Santee Cooper will sell approximately 200 megawatts of power to PMPA beginning in 2014.

CPD hires assistant chief and deputy chief of operations

Interim Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announced today that Leslie G. Wiser Jr. has been hired as assistant chief/chief of staff and Ruben Santiago as deputy chief of operations for the city of Columbia Police Department.
