Lake Murray Real Estate Update 12-17-2010

Dock expansion at Jake’s Landing gets final approval – Plans to expand the docking facilities at Jake’s Landing recently received final approval from Federal officials in charge of reviewing shoreline construction permits that affect the lands and water within the Saluda Hydro project boundary. Owner Archie Travick applied to add 30 slips to the existing marina to be used for a staging area for a new dry storage are that will accommodate up to 162 boats. The order of approval was signed by Robert J. Fletcher, Chief of Land Resources for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The order includes the following conditions: 10 the permittee’s use of the lands covered by the permit shall not endanger health, create a nuisance, or otherwise be incompatible with overall project recreational use; 2) the permittee shall take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the construction, operation and maintenance of the structures and facilities covered by the permit will occur in a manner that protects the scenic, recreational, and other environmental values of the projects; and 3) the permittee shall not unduly restrict public access to project waters. Jake’s is among several other marinas moving forward with improvements in spite of hard economic times.

While much attention has been focused on lake levels and environmental concerns, providing lake businesses with the tools they need to survive is vital and has received community support. Both Lake Watch and the Lake Murray Homeowners Coalition sent letters to the FERC endorsing the recent plans.

‘Cops & Kids’ event this Saturday – This Saturday, Dec. 18, the Fraternal Order of Police Midlands Lodge #1 is sponsoring the annual “Cops & Kids” event at the Lexington Wal-Mart on Highway 378. FOP Midlands Lodge #1 would like to invite all Law Enforcement to volunteer. Law Enforcement Officers that are volunteering are asked to meet at 8:30a.m. outside the store. Officers are asked to be in uniform and park patrol vehicles on the side of Wal-Mart. This is an annual event that FOP Midlands Lodge #1 sponsors each year. Cops and Kids or known as shop with a Cop has been held for over 10 years. Each family that officers take shopping are needs and or dialysis patients. This event is at no cost to the volunteers.
