Southeastern Freight launches logistics subsidiary

Lexington-based Southeastern Freight Lines is adding partnerships with other carriers to provide services through its new subsidiary, Southeastern Logistic Solutions.

Sanford calls for tax reform one last time

Gov. Mark Sanford used his final news conference as governor to make his case for a comprehensive reform of the state’s tax code. He has pressed the issue unsuccessfully for eight years.

Greenville Hospital System settles Medicare case

Greenville Memorial Hospital has agreed to pay $1 million to settle allegations that it submitted false claims to Medicare, the U.S. Justice Department said. Skip Morris, the hospital’s executive director of corporate integrity, said the hospital system admitted no liability and settled with the government to avoid the further costs of litigation.

State advances rail plan without rail lines’ support

Although the two major rail lines that would be affected by the Commerce Department’s rail plan have said they are not yet on board with the proposal, the state has moved forward with condemnation of about 100 acres of land owned by five public and private groups.

Take the polar plunge at Lake Carolina

The seventh annual Polar Bear Plunge is scheduled for Saturday at Sunset Park. Special honors will be given in several categories, and proceeds benefit Children’s Charities of the Midlands
