Sale of Port of Port Royal falls through

A proposed deal for the Port of Port Royal fell apart this week when the buyer missed a deposit deadline, yet another setback in the S.C. State Ports Authority six-year effort to unload the property.

First Community Corp. sees slight drop in net income

The bank reported net income of $1.2 million for the year ended Dec. 31, down from $1.9 million in 2009. Net income for the fourth quarter was $230,000 as compared to net income of $228,000 in the third quarter of 2010, but down from $705,000 from fourth quarter of 2009.

HUD awards $6 million to assist S.C. homeless programs

Fifty-one local homeless assistance programs in South Carolina received a combined $6,784,796 from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan announced.

Providence names facilities management director

Providence Hospitals recently named Rodney “Van” Hauser as director of facilities management. Hauser has more than 20 years experience in the fields of facilities management and construction.

Coble elected chair of Columbia World Affairs Council

Nexsen Pruet partner Bob Coble has been elected chair of the Columbia World Affairs Council. The vote came at the group’s annual meeting on Tuesday. Fred Monk founded the council and is past chair. He said Coble has been playing a significant role with the council for some time.

Midlands Technical Foundation board members named

The Midlands Technical College Foundation has elected new executive officers and board members for 2011
