Robin Hood – A Somewhat True Tale: Columbia Children’s Theatre

Farmville: EdVenture Children’s Museum

Children will learn about the science behind the agricultural technology of tomorrow! From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., families will discover what foods and products are raised right here in South Carolina. Children will have a good time participating in The Great Tractor Race, Vegetable Guess and Bees Buzz! Find out how a peach is grown, how much a cow eats and how a combine works. Plant a seed, purchase fresh produce from the farmers market, pet farm animals and learn the art and fun of square dancing.

The Epworth Alumni Association 3rd Annual “Cookout for Kids” BBQ! will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the beautiful campus of Epworth Children’s Home. Come and enjoy a great Saturday afternoon of delicious BBQ prepared by award winning cooks from across South Carolina, the display of 30+ Antique Model A Fords, and great music to entertain you during your meal. All proceeds raised from the annual BBQ’s are given to Epworth in support of its mission to provide Abundant Care to all of its children.

Bark to the Park: Finlay Park

Bark to the Park is one of Pawmetto Lifeline’s largest fundraising efforts that directly benefits its mission of granting life to homeless pets in the Midlands. Join an expected crowd over 3,500 people. The event will kick off with a one mile fun walk for people and their pets followed by a festival accompanied with statewide vendors, canine contests, a $20 Micro-chipping clinic, entertainment by K9s in Flight, flyball demonstrations, food and lots of fun.

Fans will have field access through “2001” entrance, select Columbia-area student-athletes will sign autographs on official team posters for 1 hour, photo opportunities with trophies: Hardees Trophy (Clemson football victory), football SEC Eastern Division Championship, baseball National Championship, kids activities including face tattoos, bouncehouse, and a Gamecock football uniform station, skills challenges, Cocky and the cheerleaders and live music from Tokyo Joe!

Indie Grits Film Festival: Nickelodeon Theatre

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 – Sunday, April 17, 2011
The fifth annual Indie Grits Film Festival, a juried film competition, will take place at several venues in downtown Columbia. In celebration of the fifth anniversary of Indie Grits, the festival will feature several new exciting events, including famed filmmaker Helen Hill’s final work, “The Florestine Dresses.” Hill, a native of Columbia, was making this film when she was killed in her home in New Orleans in 2006. Hill’s husband, Paul Gailiunas, has been working to finish the film for several years, and the film will debut at Indie Grits. In addition to a slate of experimental, feature-length, short and feature-length films, this year’s Indie Grits will also feature food and craft events.
