“A storybook perfect performance” perfect for the entire family is in store, when Columbia City Ballet takes to the Savannah Civic Center stage this Saturday with their production of the ballet, The Sleeping Beauty.
The fairy tale The Sleeping Beauty presents a classic tale of good – represented by the Lilac Fairy – triumphing over evil – embodied in the wicked fairy Carabosse. The wicked fairy is left off the guest list for the infant Princess Aurora’s christening, and unbeknownst to the royal family, Carabosse plots to take her revenge. She interrupts the ceremony to bestow a gift on the baby princess: Aurora shall grow up to be beautiful, but on her 16th birthday she shall prick her finger on a spindle and die. Fortunately, the Lilac Fairy had not given her gift yet, and decrees that the Princess shall not die but will fall asleep for one hundred years. At that time a prince will come to kiss Aurora on the brow and awake the princess from her slumber; she and the prince will wed and live happily ever after.
